OUR TEAM'S CULTURAL MAP:

DUNJA: My name is Dunja. I am a junior teacher within an Ontario public school board. I am passionate about weaving social justice issues into the curriculum every day, and love seeing young students become critical consumers of information and active democratic citizens. My academic journey began in the public school system many years ago, where caring teachers who valued me as a person taught me to read my world with a social justice lens. I aspire to continue that legacy in my work. (FAMILY CULTURAL BACKGROUND: Yugoslavia)

JESSICA: I’m Jessica and I am passionate about early child development and am interested in human rights and ethics. I began my academic journey at Carleton University where I completed my BA Honours in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy. I am now completing my final three credits to finish my Masters degree in Developmental Psychology and Education at OISE. My work experience includes over 7 years in the retirement residence industry, as well as experience working at a private elementary school in Ottawa as both a behavioural aid for preschool aged children, and as an assistant preschool teacher. I enjoy cooking, baking and puttering in the garden, and especially love spending time with family and friends (and their young children!). FAMILY CULTURAL BACKGROUND: Ireland and Norway)

JOANNE: I'm Joanne and I have an interest in emerging learning technologies. My academic journey started with a B.A. in Communication Studies from Laurier, followed by a Post-Grad Diploma in Public Relations & Corporate Communications from Fanshawe College. I have worked at McMaster University for fifteen years - starting out in public relations, and moving through various program management and academic advising roles. Currently I oversee an online post-graduate training program for junior researchers within the Department of Family Medicine. I am one course away from completing my Masters of Higher Education at OISE and while a PhD could be a possibility, I am looking forward to having more time to pursue other personal interests including creative writing, yoga and stained glass. MONIQUE: My name is Monique and I have a passion for social justice. My academic background began at Centennial College where I completed a Social Service Worker diploma. Following this, I completed my undergraduate degree at York University, where I majored in Women and Gender Studies. I am now completing my Master's Degree in Social Justice Education at OISE where I am able to build on all that I have learned in the last 10 years. I am currently working as an educator in a Multiple Exceptionalities classroom, where I am able to bridge theory with practice. I enjoy reading, exercising and extending a helping hand where needs be. My goal is to begin a PhD in the near future and to speak loudly about issues of marginalization concerning women of Color.
